An 11-year-old pug named Jaxson has been praised by his city as a very good boy after alerting his family of an electrical fire.

According to a post on contact usthe city's Facebook page, Jaxson was the first pet in Meridian, Idaho, to receive the annual Hometown Hero Award after he alerted his family of an electrical fire in their home earlier this year.

"Jaxson began to persistently bark in what his owner describes as an 'irregular tone and cadence,'" the city said in a press release. "Because of this, Jaxson’s owner rushed downstairs to figure out what was causing his dog to bark. That’s when owner, Todd Lavoie, noticed sparks from an outlet and its sole power strip."

Fortunately, Lavoie was able to extinguish the flames using a fire extinguisher and shut off power to the house.

On Tuesday evening, Jaxson was presented the Hometown Hero Award by Meridian's mayor, Tammy de Weerd.

"Jaxson is definitely a super pug, he deserves the hometown hero. He saved our house, he saved our lives and he saved our memories," Lavoie told KBOI.
